Having grown up in Germany, the only view of the south came from Hollywood picture shows so I was afraid of the town ganging up on a foreigner (love the movies my cousin vinnie and deliverence). Imagine my shock when I was famished and went into a country restaurant and the waitress called me honey! Of course I had to look this up when I got back home since we in Germany are unfamiliar with this expression of meaning.
